Inspiration for the Painting

This painting is the symbol of l’art de vivre on the French Riviera.

Inspired by bright colors, beautiful antique silver objects from the weekend flea markets, fresh caught lobsters and crustaceans.

This Still Life is an emphasis of being epicurean and hedonist in spite of challenges.

The warm reds of the crustaceans combine with crispy yellow limes, offsetting the cool hues of silver on the table.

This painting was created to enhance feelings of happiness, joy and deliciousness in one’s life.

Symbolism in the Painting Explained

The reflection on the silver cup promotes conscious enjoyment and connection between reality and imagination.

The crayfish and lobster symbolise an aphrodisiac making this Still Life almost erotic.

The masculine and feminine energy of the cool lemons and the hot pink of the crayfish create delicious harmony and colourful balance.

Anna’s technique and classical composition together with the beautiful 19th Century frame connect this modern artwork to Renaissance Masterpieces.

Inspiration for the Painting

This Franco – Flemish School inspired modern Still Life is executed with endless love and appreciation for history, classical beauty, aesthetical asceticism and the Old Masters art.

Symbolism in the Painting Explained

The antique Dutch carafe (16th century) symbolises the eternal presence of timeless beauty and inspiration. I imagine how many people lovingly and carefully used this filigree vessel to drink wine or maybe to compose exquisite still life paintings. It reminds me of the glass objects in Van Dyck’s or Frans Hals’s paintings.

On my travels I always search for unique objects of art and beauty to collect and include in the composition of my paintings.

The time I visited Holland, many years ago this antique carafe was one of my precious finds.

When recently I found a 14th century original Dutch Masters frame it seems utterly natural to paint a traditional Franco – Flemish or Dutch School Still Life for this gentle embrace between the Artwork and its embellishment…I composed it n the oldest Palazzo in Oltrarno, Florence, in the glorious Palazzo Ridolfi.

Genius Brunelleschi worked on the Duomo here, in the next room from my studio…If only these walls could speak…The antique objects of beauty certainly are in the right place here.

They continue telling and living their story in my painting surrounded by their contemporaries but in the new age of 21st century.

The gentle morning light was making its way through the sleepy shatters of the ever so still Palazzo, I put the precious carafe with fresh water and the pomegranate I got myself for breakfast on the stony window bench…

The beauty and tranquility of the picture, the play of light and reflections stunned, hugged me and held me in peaceful embrace then and still do now when I am in presence of this modern Masterpiece which immortalises the glory of silent Palazzo, crystal clarity of antique glass and juicy, full of life giving sweetness of fruit, the peaceful, meditative conversation between past, present and the future…

Mona Christina

“Mona Christina”

Size: 60cm x 50cm (without frame) / 91cm x 81cm (with frame)
Medium: Oil on Belgium Linen
Frame: Antique Gilded Carved Frame, 16th Century, Florence, Italy.

Inspiration for the Painting

Artwork “Mona Cristina” – Metaphor for “Eternal Feminine Eternal Change”.

Throughout the millenniums “Feminine” was worshipped, glorified in arts, fought for and adored in every civilisation. The most magnificent masterpieces were inspired by and dedicated to “Feminine”.

In my opinion, beauty, compassion, charm and sensitivity, modesty and chastity define the “Feminine”. It also requires attributes like courage, selflessness, intellect and decisiveness, but the most important of all is the ability to love with all of the heart.

I’m convinced; this concept is universal and eternal for human kind independent of gender and sexual orientation. “Feminine” is the combination of the seemingly contradictory qualities. The ability to achieve cohesiveness of those is the art of peaceful, happy living.

In the 21st century-society more than ever the borders are washed out, possibilities and freedoms in civilised societies are limitless. The world is constantly changing and so does the “Eternal Feminine”.

Symbolism in the Painting Explained

The painting is accomplished in oil on Belgium Linen using the principal of Old Master’s technique in my Avant-garde realism style. The composition of traditional still-life and portrait enables depiction of emotions and a meaningful storytelling through the symbolism of objects in the composition.

The artwork measures in height 60cm and is 50cm wide. The frame is an original 16th century artwork, made out the carved and gilded timber, masterfully restored by the renowned Bottega D’Arte Maselli by the Gabriele Maselli in Florence.

The position of the left hand placed firmly across on the upper arm demonstrates strength, willpower and confidence, the position of the right hand – softness, thoughtfulness and elegance.

The face is upwards, towards the light, the positive change in the future. With an ever so gentle smile the face expression shows joyful anticipation of the improvement to come. It makes the viewer wonder what dreams and aspirations this woman has in mind.

The pearls and white blouse symbolise the purity of intentions. Cristina sits calm and quiet, contemplating, but her stature is strong and ready for action to fulfil those dreams. Half of her body is in light and half in the shadow depicting successes and challenges on her way. The face is the strongest focal point of the artwork and is lit to affirm the positive attitude towards unavoidable difficulties.

The objects of art in the still life are cohesive with the Cristina’s personality. The Iris being the ancient symbol of glorious Florence indicates the location of the story I’m telling. Cristina is a “Fiorentina Vera” in Florence where traditions are alive and preserved more than anywhere in the world.

On the table I placed the antique volume of Dante’s Divine Comedy in which the Grand Poet also described the “Feminine” of his time, the duality of the “Feminine’ concept.

Cristina is a tenderly loving mother, a beautiful, elegant woman and a loyal friend as well as a strong woman being a successful journalist, an important political figure and the first female President of Museo Casa di Dante in Florence.

“LES OBJETS DE BEAUTE DE LA LONGEVITE”

Size: 68cm x 58cm
Medium: Oil on Belgium Linen
Frame: European gilded outer frame, China lacquer inner frame, gilded inner runner

Inspiration for the Painting

With this artwork from the series “Les Objets de Beauté” Anna Rubin celebrated 10 years of her successful artistic career in 2016.

A delightful event took place in Palazzo Versace where selected group of Anna Rubin realism art collectors from all over the world joined her for a special, exclusive event to reflect on a decade of Anna’s artistic career and celebrate the beauty of life.

Anna Rubin has been following her heart and passion for creating fine art for ten years and some of her valued collectors were privileged to sharing their treasures with others in this very first Retrospective Exhibition of Anna Rubin realism art!

To mark this important anniversary Anna Rubin conceived the Alchemy of the two Golden Ages of Art –
16th century Renaissance mastery and 19th century Belle Époque opulence.

Anna was thrilled to present the result, a special series of art works including “Les Objets de Beauté de la Longevite” that embodies her inmost inspiration…The beauty!

Symbolism in the Painting Explained

The butterfly is a symbol of long life and signifies joy, warmth and longevity.

The fig fruit conveys the meaning that something wonderful is going to happen soon.

For this reason figs are placed on bridal beds and the wood of the fig tree was used to construct beds for children.

The illuminous yellow of the Chinese silk embroidered with blue and white moths and butterflies symbolises wealth and prosperity as well as a privileged status of the owner in society.

It is an antique robe Anna inherited from her late Grate Grandmother, who received it as a goodbye present from Shanghai Opera in early 20th century. She served there as a lead singer for some time after escaping revolutionary Russia.

This painting took over 5 months to accomplish. The glowing yellow shines like a ray of sun in the room wherever this art work is presented. The gold leaf on the first layer of this magnificent art work makes sure that effect will never fade.

The intricate details of the painting take the viewer on a discovery journey each and every time the viewer looks at it.

The reflections on the silver vase, the baby leaves of the fig branch and the fruit; some – bursting with ripeness, dark purple and some – needing a little passion to get there with light lilac skin.

This masterpiece is an endless entertainment and wonderful visual delight.

“ENFANT INTÉRIEUR”

Size: 53cm x 40cm
Medium: Oil on Belgium Linen
Frame: Large hand gilded outer, hand gilded small sloped inner on black and gold float frame

Inspiration for the painting

“Enfant Interieur” translated into English means “Inner-child”.

When conceiving this artwork Anna trusted to inspire the future owner to cultivate the inner-child while improving and developing the personality.

This intricate artwork is an important symbol to remember to smile and have fun, trust and remain innocent, keep open-minded and adventurous as children;

To stay away from becoming increasingly cautious, suspicious of or fixed in certain believes, boring, repetitive and sad after no doubt many challenging experiences of “growing up”.

Symbolism in the Painting Explained

The children’s shoes are the symbol of the “Inner-child” present – not suppressed.

The shoes are the first baby shoes of Anna’s daughter and are chosen because of a sweet, endearing emotional connection between the Artist and the artwork.

They are preserved, kept in safety from everyday responsibilities, thoughts and actions, but always in sight through the glass for anyone on a journey to finding the balance between being accountable, cold headed grownup and carefree, playful child.

The chain is there to symbolise how challenging it is sometimes to keep light hearted. To trust, that all is perfect and for the higher good.
